John was my roommate for several years in college at Fairmont, both of us in the music program, and we played many concerts and went on several tours together. He was a fine trumpet player.
John loved music, but his true passion was cars! I remember he kept a Chevy engine he was working on in his bedroom! He was so happy when he got Purple Haze on the road, his pride and joy. John taught me how to be a successful drag racer at the track, and we spent many evenings at Eldora Raceway.
John could be riotously funny and had a kind and caring side. At Christmas he would organize us music students to go play at Salvation Army kettles to raise money for them. He was a good friend and I am saddened by his passing. Condolences to his family.
