Obituary of George William "Bill" Carpenter

George William “Bill” Carpenter, 75, passed away peacefully in his home on Wednesday, April 16, 2025. He was born in Rivesville on May 5, 1949, the son to the late George Lewis and Elladean Irene Hayhurst Carpenter. He was survived by his loving companion, Kathy Marie Carpenter. In addition to Kathy, Bill is survived by his step-daughter, Elizabeth Johnson and her husband Christopher of Rivesville, his sister, Effie Mae Reynolds of Sheboygan, W.I., and his step-grandchildren, Savanna Johnson and Evangaline Johnson. He was known as “Pappy” by many of his dear friends and family. Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army and was retired from U.S. Securities, Morgantown, WV. He also worked as a security guard for U.S. Security. Bill was a member of Rivesville United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and the great-outdoors. He loved dancing at the local V.F.W. and spending time with his family and loved ones. The family has requested memorial contributions be made to Rivesville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 66, Rivesville, WV 26588. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ford Funeral Home, DeGarmo Chapel, 207 Second Street, Rivesville, WV 26588. Friends will be received in the funeral home on Friday, April 18, 2025 from 10a.m. until 2p.m. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Friday at 2p.m. with Reverend Stanley Merrifield and Pastor David Stilgenbauer officiating. Following the funeral service, full military rites will be held at the funeral home in honor of Bill’s service in the U.S. Army.
