Obituary of Pattie Jean Gearde

Pattie Jean Gearde, 86, of Rivesville, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at the St. Barbara’s Nursing Home in Monongah. She was born October 2, 1938 in Fairmont, WV a daughter of the late Herman Ray and Viola Grace Myers McCallister. She was preceded in death by her husband, David Gearde. Mrs. Gearde was a 1956 graduate of Rivesville High School and a member of the Rivesville United Methodist Church and later attended the Highlawns United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker in her own home and had previously worked various jobs including Thoroughfare Market in Bellview. Pattie loved to paint with both oil paints and water colors. She was an avid reader throughout her life and enjoyed writing stories about her childhood as well as history. She submitted and was published several times in the Times West Virginian over the years. Pattie was a hardworking woman and worked hard her whole life. She was very compassionate and generous with others, often giving to those in need. She would never turn a stray animal away, and kept and cared for many over the years. She loved her friends and her family, and spent her life making sure they knew of her affection. She is survived by her children, Jeff (Cindy) Yost of Glenwood, WV, Doug Yost of Rivesville, WV, Kelly (Jose Andrade) Michael of Fairmont, and Michael (Sally) Yost of Fairmont, her sister, Peggy Toothman of Rivesville, her step-children, Rocky (Sandy) Gearde, Joe Gearde, Chris Gearde, grandchildren: Jeff Yost, Jr., Douglas Yost, Jessica Kepinski, Daniel Yost, Garrett Michael, Evan Michael, Brendan Michael, Brittney Michael, Aundrea Rieke, Matthew Yost, Shannon Yost, Chris Yost, Brittany Morrison, Chelsea Sheets, Haley Gearde, Taylor Gearde, Anthony Gearde, Christen Stemple, Gary Anthony Gearde, Thad Gearde, and Gina Gearde. She is also survived by her 13 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and several close friends. In addition to her husband and parents, Pattie was preceded in death by her siblings, Bill McCallister, Alec McCallister, and Carrie McCallister. The family would like to thank the Doctors and staff of St. Barbara’s Nursing Home and her previous caretaker, Roseann Marsh, for the love and care they provided to Pattie over the past few years. The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, DeGarmo Chapel, 207 Second Street, Rivesville. Friends and family may visit on Saturday, April 12, 2025 from 10AM until 12 noon. The funeral will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 12 noon with Reverend Stanley Merrifield officiating. Interment will follow at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery in Fairmont.
