Obituary of Deloris "Dottie" Jean Sanson

Deloris “Dottie” Jean Sanson, 85, of Fairmont, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, March 23, 2025 in the Fairmont Medical Center. She was born in Fairmont on February 8, 1940. A daughter to the late Earl and Mildred Salter Merrifield. She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Jake “Bill” William Sanson. In addition to her husband, she is survived by Gene and Kathy Sanson, her children, Beverly Sanson, Billy Sanson and his wife Michelle, Brenda Hovatter and her husband Terry, and Jimmy Sanson and his wife Tina. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Lora Akers, Lisa Akers, Nicole Shepard, Kala Rockey, Matt, Heather Stone and her husband Scott, Adam DeMarco and his wife Rachel, Gennavieve Sanson, Jacob Sanson and his wife Kelsie, Evelyn Sanson, along with many great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. In addition to her parents, Dottie was preceded in death by her siblings, Bill Merrifield and his wife Betty, Karen Merrifield and her husband Thorton, Patty West and her husband Calvin, Nancy Naternicola and her husband Joe, her infant brother, and a very special mother-in-law, Mildred Sanson. Dottie was a strong Christian in faith and expressed happiness in preparing to meet the Lord. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother to her family. Dottie enjoyed time with many close friends, her weekly meetings with her top groups, and diamond painting. Aside from being a great friend to many, she also enjoyed a career spanning over 30 years at Westing House/North American Phillips. Dottie’s greatest joy was having her family around her. She loved going to the mountains, sitting around the camp fire, and hosting cookouts. Dottie had a heart of gold and was proud of her family. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. A private Celebration of Life ceremony will be held by the family at a later date.
