Obituary of William "Bill" Runyan, Sr.

William “Bill” Runyan Sr., loving father and husband, went to be with our Lord on Saturday, March 15th surrounded by his family. He was born on November 21, 1950 in Fairmont to the late Willis and Beatrice Runyan. William was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and of the Knights of Columbus Marian Council #942. Bill was a 1968 graduate of Rivesville High School. A mine foreman for Consol Energy, Bill retired with over thirty years of service. He then went on to work for GMS Mine Repair & Maintenance from which he ultimately retired. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing, and gardening. What Bill enjoyed most in life was spending time with his family and friends. He was a dedicated father and grandfather who never missed an opportunity to support his kids’ activities, whether it be sporting events, academic achievements, or any type of celebration. Above all else, Bill put his family first. He often said his greatest accomplishment in life was his children. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Veronica (Susie) Pitek Runyan, his son Billy and wife Tracy Runyan of Rivesville, his daughters Krista and husband Brian Harrison of Fairmont, Melissa and husband Jason Kucish of Barrackville, and Sheena and husband Jimmy Hershman of Rivesville, his grandchildren Anna Runyan, Lydia Runyan and fiancé Zac Griffith, Will Runyan III, Tyler Harrison, Aubrey Harrison, Mila Kucish, Jacob Kucish, Joshua Kucish, Jimmy Hershman, and Ava Hershman, Kate Forsyth and husband Dave, Levi Pawich and fiancé Jennifer Youngleman, and three great grandchildren; Xandra Hanson, Odin Forsyth, and Annora Forsyth. Family will receive friends at Degarmo Funeral Home, 2nd Street, Rivesville on Wednesday, March 19th from 2:00pm to 8:00pm with the Rosary being recited at 7:30pm. Mass will be held on Thursday, March 20th, at 11:00 am at Saint Anthony’s Catholic Church with Father Romeo Bacalso as celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel cemetery.
