
Obituary of Joan Terrill Duncan Farrell
Joan Terrill Farrell, 84, of Fairmont, passed away on Wednesday, February 12, 2025 at the Genesis Pierpont Center at Fairmont Campus. She was born January 2, 1941 in Fairmont, WV, a daughter of the late James M. and Metia Duncan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Randolph Farrell.
Joan was a graduate of Fairmont Senior High School, as well as a 1961 graduate of the Fairmont General Hospital School of Nursing. She was a life-long member of the Highland Avenue United Methodist Church where she was a member of the Rachel Circle of the United Methodist Women, and enjoyed being involved in almost all of the church activities including shut-in visitations, and working the cake room for church dinners. Joan was a nurse and retired from the Marion County Home Health Department as a home health nurse. She previously served as a nurse with both Fairmont General Hospital and Dr. Gotses’ office in Fairmont. After retirement, she volunteered at Fairmont General Hospital as a “pink lady”.
Joan enjoyed gardening and taking care of animals, especially her cats. She was an avid bird watcher. She contributed a lot of herself to her church and church family. She loved Elvis and enjoyed traveling with MCPARC trips, as well as to Chincoteague Island, VA with her family. Joan was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
She is survived by her son, Todd Farrell of Fairmont, her granddaughter, Audrey Farrell of Pittsburgh, her life long best friend and cousin, Judy and her husband Ron Shackleford of Fairmont, and many close friends.

The family has entrusted the arrangements to Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont. Friends and family may visit on Thursday, February 20, 2025 from 10AM until 12 noon. The funeral will be held in the funeral home on Thursday at 12 noon with Reverend Jackie Chambers officiating. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover, WV.
