
Obituary of Walter Eugene Trippett
Walter Eugene Trippett, 86, of Fairmont WV passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2025. Born on March 1, 1938 to the late Glenn Howard and Gertrude Louise Glasscock Trippett of Bellview WV. In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Shirley Louise Dixon Trippett, his daughter Deborah Lynn Pope, and his brother Carl Trippett.
He is survived by his son, Duane and wife Shelly Trippett; son-in-law Alex Pope; brothers, Howard, Paul; sisters, Doris Linn, and Elizabeth Carpenter; his grandchildren, Adam Pope and Kelsi Trippett.
Walter was a 1956 graduate of Fairmont Senior High School and proudly served his country in the United States Army in the Corps of Engineers. After his time in the service, Walter went on to work for the Rail Road and retired as a coal miner with Consolidated Coal Company.
Walter had a passion for mechanics and enjoyed working on cars and small engines as a hobby. He loved sitting outside on his swing in the backyard, gardening, and being near the Tygart River. Walter was a loyal friend to many, both near and far. He was often remembered for happily removing snow from his neighbors’ driveways and walkways on Golf Drive.
Walter found joy in spending time with family, and days before his passing he was excited to learn that he would be a great-grandfather in the summer.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. In accordance with his wishes, cremation service will occur.
