Obituary of Bertha Anna Lee Cain

Bertha Anna Lee Cain, 100, of Raleigh, NC and formerly of Fairmont, WV, passed away peacefully at her home in Raleigh on Saturday, November 30, 2024. She was born in Fairmont on June 21, 1924, daughter of the late Hayes Hughes and Vira Bunner Hughes. Bertha was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 50 years, Robert Gordon Cain. Bertha is survived by her son, Bob Cain of Raleigh, NC; grandson, Nicholas Cain; sister-in-law, Laura Cain; close friend who was more like a son, Greg Satterfield; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her husband and parents, Bertha was preceded in death by her daughter, Charleen Cain; brothers, Pete and Dink Cain; and brothers-in-law, Archie and William Cain. Bertha was a graduate of East Fairmont High School and worked at Westinghouse, Jones Department Store, and at White Hall Elementary School as a kindergarten aide. She enjoyed gardening, canning food, quilting, sewing, and knotting. Bertha was a strong woman who volunteered for Beverly Homemakers Association, Fairmont Lions Club, and local 4H clubs. She was a woman of faith and was very active at Eldora United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, WV 26554, on Friday, December 6, 2024, from 10 a.m. until 12 noon. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Friday, December 6, 2024, at 12 noon with Dr. Dan Gurash officiating.
