Terry M. Yankie, 59, of Barrackville passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 19, 2026, surrounded by his loving family just as he wished. Terry accepted his diagnosis of Pancreatic Cancer with a true soldier’s strength and spirit. He overcame many challenges in the last 15 months. This was not a battle he lost, but simply part of his journey to his heavenly home. He was born on August 15, 1966, in Fairmont, a son of the late David and Mary (Myers) Yankie of Worthington. He was Catholic by faith. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 33 years Holly (Zeni) Yankie, who was his high school sweetheart, his two adoring daughters who brought him much joy and pride, Mary Frances Yankie and Isabella Yankie, both of Barrackville. Terry always said being their dad was the most important job he would ever have, and he took great pride in being very involved with them both as they grew up. He was also fortunate enough to have Mary Frances’ closest childhood friend, Mariah Morris (Thomas Wright) of Huntington, whom he considered one of his own. Terry is also survived by his loving mother-in-law, Frances Zeni, and his sister-in-law, Sonya Zeni, both of Barrackville. He will be deeply missed by them all. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenny Yankie, Ronnie Yankie, and Frank Hammond Jr., as well as his father-in-law Ron Zeni. Survivors include his brother David (Linda) Yankie of Ohio, sisters Shelly Yankie of Monongah, Barbie Yankie (Katy Bolyard) of Worthington, Kim Hawkins (Sam Murray) of Rivesville, Christy (Bob) Toothman of Farmington, and Sylvie (Charles) Barr of Fairmont. Terry was also blessed with many nieces and nephews. He formed individual bonds with each of them from an early age, and they each held special places in his heart. Family was extremely important to him and with whom he spent most of his time. He always enjoyed being outside. Growing up, he spent much time camping in the nearby woods, hunting ginseng, riding his dirtbike, and playing football with friends and family. He loved a good competition and played in many paintball tournaments. He was an avid sports fan, especially baseball, his favorite team being the Chicago Cubs. He enjoyed visiting family in Chicago and attending games at Wrigley Field. He enjoyed growing hot peppers and tomatoes, feeding the birds at home and relaxing on the porch with his family. Missing him as well is his best little buddy, his cat Druzy. Terry was a member of the 201ST Field Artillery National Guard in Fairmont, joining in 1986. He was a proud combat veteran serving in Desert Storm in 1991. His work history includes Ruskin Manufacturing and Metso Power, where he worked with sheet metal and welding. At the time of his diagnosis, he was employed by the Marion County Board of Education as a custodian for Watson Elementary, a position he very much enjoyed. Memorial contributions may be made in Terry’s memory to VFW Post 629 at 802 Fairmont Avenue, Fairmont, WV 26554, or the V.A. Pittsburgh Fisher House at University Drive, Building 33, Pittsburgh, PA. 15240. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia Street, Fairmont, WV 26554. Friends and family will be received on Saturday March 28, 2026, from 11:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 P.M. with Deacon David Lester as celebrant.
