Obituary of Norma Ruth Flynn Tennant

Norma Ruth Flynn Tennant, 88, of Fairmont, passed away on Monday, February 13, 2017 at Fairmont Regional Medical Center. She was born September 20, 1928 in Morgantown a daughter of the late James F. and Pearl Radabaugh Flynn. On January 4, 2016 she was preceded in death by her husband whom she married May 8, 1948, Carl Clifford Tennant. Mrs. Tennant was a Methodist by faith and a graduate of Rivesville High School. She worked at Owens Illinois in the selecting department until its closure. She then worked with and retired from the Marion County Board of Education as a custodian having worked at Barrackville, East Fairmont High School and RESA. Norma was proud of her Irish heritage, she had traveled to Ireland to visit her O’Flynn family homeland. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards with friends, square dancing with her husband, and attending concerts which included the Gaither’s, one of her favorite groups. She had previously bowled with the Owen Illinois bowling leagues. She loved her flower garden and was notorious for her diligent weeding and keeping the flower bed pristine. Norma is survived by her two daughters; Sharon and her husband Gary Smith of Edmond, OK, and Sue and her husband Alan Lockwood of Fairmont, WV; grandchildren: Lysa Lockwood and her companion Richard Pheasant of Fairmont, Nicole and her husband Bruce Beam of Edmond, OK, Rayan Matthews and her fiancé Michael Cinalli of Fairmont, and Kristin and her husband Reid Fowler of Jackson Hole, WY; four great grandchildren: Gage Matthews, Carson Beam, Caylee Beam, and Emma Fowler; two sisters-in-law: Betty Shaver of Wadestown, WV and Martha Vandergrift of PA; her special cousin Billy Honaker who visited her often, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by her brothers; Franklin “Chip” Flynn, and James “Jimmy” Flynn, and her sister, Betty Pifer. The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of the John Manchin Sr. Healthcare Facility for all their loving care over the past years.
