Obituary of Robert William Fisher

Robert William Fisher, 90, of Fairmont, passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2016, at United Hospital Center in Bridgeport. He was born in Callensburg, PA on March 27, 1925, a son of the late Clarence Fisher and Dorcus Beck Fisher. Mr. Fisher is survived by his wife, Carrie Bell Fisher. They were happily married for 69 years and were married on February 5, 1947. Mr. Fisher retired from G.C. Murphy Co. with 39 years of service where he managed Murphy Mart here for the last 11 years of his career. He served in the U.S. Army as Sergeant for 32 months during World War II. He served overseas in the Philippines. Mr. Fisher was a member of the Fleming Memorial Presbyterian Church in Fairmont, WV. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 629 in Fairmont and a 32 Degree Mason and member of the Lodge of the Craft Westminster No. 433 in New Castle, PA. In addition to his wife, Mr. Fisher is survived by three children, William E. Fisher and his wife Adrean of St. Augustine, FL, Gary L. Fisher and his wife Susan of Lake Poinsett, SD and Dottie Alasky and her husband Chris of Fairmont; four grandchildren, Robert Fisher and his wife Laurie, Wendy Frisby and her husband Chuck, Dylan Alasky and his fiancé Miranda Filius and Laura LaPointe and her husband Jason; six great grandchildren, William Westenrieder and his wife Britney, Robert Westenrieder, Alexandra Fisher, Sydney Fisher, Madison Yanna, Elijah LaPointe; and one great-great grandchild, Natalie Westenrieder. In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by a grandson, Sammy Yanna, a brother, Arthur Fisher and a sister-in-law Muriel Fisher. The family requests memorial contributions be made in Robert’s memory to the American Cancer Society, 122 South High Street, Morgantown, WV 26501. The family will receive friends at Ford Funeral Home, R.C. Jones Chapel, 1410 Country Club Road, Fairmont, WV 26554, on Saturday, February 13, 2016, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Sunday, February 14, 2016, from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Sunday, February 14, 2016, at 2 p.m. Military funeral honors will be held in the funeral home on Sunday following the funeral service. A private committal service will take place at Greenlawn Burial Estates in Butler, PA.
